ABC Heart of America 2025 Excellence in Construction Award Winners
Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Heart of America Chapter Announces Excellence in Construction Award Winners
November 6, 2025 – Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Heart of America Chapter has announced the winners of their 2025 Excellence in Construction Awards presented by Baker Tilly at the annual awards banquet held November 6, 2025, at The Midland Theatre in Kansas City, MO.
Winners were selected by a panel of judges who reviewed the project entries for safety practices, encountered challenges, and innovative solutions among other judging criteria. Nine category winners in subcontracting and fifteen category winners in general contracting were chosen.
In the subcontracting categories, Torgeson Electric Company received the Electrical Commercial/Institutional award for their Kansas Department of Health and Environment Topeka Laboratory project. For Interior/Exterior, MAR Building Solutions won for their work on the Unified Government – Water Pollution Control & Kansas City Kansas Crime Lab. Temp-Con LLC took home two awards for Mechanical Commercial: Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City – $1 to $5 Million and AdventHealth – Lenexa City Center – Over $5 Million. Lee Mechanical Contractors, Inc. was awarded Mechanical Industrial – $1 to $5 Million for their work on the Certainteed Palatka Expansion project. The subcontracting Specialty category award was given to APCO Glass for their work on Kansas City Zoo Lion Enclosure.
There were three subcontractor finalists for Subcontractor Project of the Year. Lee Mechanical Contractors, Inc. who took home the award for Mechanical Industrial – Over $5 Million for their work on the Cemex Downcomer Duct Replacement project. hth companies, inc. were honored for their work on the Verbio TGN Nevada, Iowa project in the Mechanical Industrial – Under $1 Million category. And Thermaltech, Inc. won the Mechanical Commercial – Under $1 Million category for the Missouri S&T Welcome Center project.
In the general contracting categories, Centric Construction Group, LLC won both Commercial – Over $10 Million award for the Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City project, and Commercial – Under $10 Million for the Origin Hotel project. Nabholz was recognized in the Healthcare category for their work on the Centerpoint Medical Center Free Standing Emergency Room. For the Historical Restoration category, Straub Construction Co., Inc. received the award for The Gathering KC project. Al J. Mueller Construction Co. was awarded the Industrial category award for their work on the New Build of East Buchanan Middle School project. Nabholz also earned the Institutional – Under $5 Million award for the UMKC Foodiverse project. The Institutional – $5 to $10 Million award was presented to Killian Construction Co. for their work on the Ozarks Tech Roy Blunt Aviation Training Center. Crossland Heavy Contractors, Inc. took home two awards for the Public Works/Environmental categories: Rural Water District #2 Water Treatment Plant Expansion – Over $10 Million and Lime Silo Slaker Addition – Under $10 Million. The third category award for Nabholz was Renovation – Under $10 Million for their work on Springfield Branson National Airport GA Terminal Expansion & Remodel project. And Straub Construction Co., Inc.’s second category award was Residential – Under $25 Million for their work on the Blume NKC project. The general contracting Specialty categoryaward was given to MegaKC for the North Kansas City Fallen Officer Memorial project.
The three general contractor finalists for General Contractor Project of the Year were Straub Construction Co., Inc. who won in the Institutional – Over $10 Million category with their work on the Monastery of St. Joseph project. Nabholz who won the Renovation – Over $10 Million award for the Roosevelt Elementary Addition. As well as Cerris Builders, Inc. who won the Residential – Over $25 Million category for the Trulo Homes at Twin Creeks project.
The award of Top General Contractor Project went to Straub Construction Co., Inc. for their Monastery of St. Joseph project. The Top Subcontractor Project was awarded to Lee Mechanical Contractors, Inc. for their Cemex Downcomer Duct Replacement project.
The Arthur C. Waugh Keystone Award was presented to Jordan Smith of Lee Mechanical Contractors, Inc.
