Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Heart of America Chapter
Announces Excellence in Construction Award Winners
November 7, 2024 – Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Heart of America Chapter has announced the winners of their 2024 Excellence in Construction Awards program at the annual awards banquet held November 7, 2024 at The Gallery Event Space in Kansas City, MO.
Winners were selected by a panel of judges who reviewed the project entries explaining safety practices, innovative solutions, and unique challenges among other judging criteria.
Seven category winners in subcontracting and twenty category winners in general contracting were selected.
In the subcontracting categories, Lee Mechanical Contractors, Inc. received the Mechanical Industrial – Over $2 Million award for their Argos WV Baghouse project. For mechanical institutional projects, Thermaltech, Inc. won the Mechanical Institutional – Under $2 Million category for their work on the New Orchard Farm High School, while Temp-Con was recognized in the Mechanical Institutional – $2 to $5 Million category for the KC Current Stadium project. QuesTec Mechanical received the Mechanical Institutional – Over $5 Million award for the Missouri University of Science and Technology – Student Experience Center project.
There were three subcontractor finalists for Subcontractor Project of the Year. FatBoy Electric, Inc. who took home the award for Electrical Institutional – Under $2 Million for their work on the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery project. hth companies, inc. who were honored for their work on the Verbio NBR Insulation project in the Mechanical Industrial – Under $2 Million category. And Torgeson Electric Company who won the Electrical Institutional – Over $2 Million category for the Homefield Kansas City project.
In the general contracting categories, Centric Construction Group, LLC took the Commercial – Over $20 Million award for the Chicken N Pickle St Charles project, while Nabholz was recognized in the Commercial – Under $10 Million category for their work on the University of Missouri – Virginia Avenue Parking Garage. For healthcare projects, Straub Construction Co., Inc. received the Healthcare – Over $10 Million award for their work on the Lakemary Center, and Excel Constructors, Inc. won in the Healthcare – Under $10 Million category for the Corbin Park Medical Office Building project. In the historical restoration category, Straub Construction Co., Inc. was honored with the Historical Restoration – Over $10 Million award for their work on Reconciliation Services. In the Industrial – $10 to $20 Million category, Nabholz won for their work on the J.B. Hunt Transportation Facility, and Brinkmann Constructors was awarded Industrial – Over $20 Million for the Cnano Tenant Improvements project. Lee Mechanical Contractors, Inc. received the Industrial – Under $10 Million award for the GAR Alt Fuels Expansion project. Emery Sapp & Sons was honored in the Infrastructure: Heavy category for their work on MODOT Montgomery County Route 19. In the institutional categories, Nabholz took the Institutional – Over $5 Million award for the Fort Osage School District District Wide Improvements, and Fogel-Anderson Construction Co. was recognized in the Institutional – Under $5 Million category for the Kansas City Zoo Sea Lion Renovation project. For public works/environmental projects, Crossland Heavy Contractors, Inc. won the Public Works/Environmental – Over $10 Million category for the Topeka WTP West Plant Basin Rehabilitation. In the renovation category, Nabholz won the Renovation – Under $2 Million category for their work on the University of Missouri – Hospital Canopy Column Repairs. For residential projects, Cerris Builders was honored in the Residential – Over $20 Million category for their work on the Aspen Heights Bloomington Student Housing, and Straub Construction Co., Inc. won the Residential – Under $20 Million award for Sam Rodgers Place. In the specialty categories, Emery Sapp & Sons received the Specialty – Over $5 Million award for the Silver Dollar City Parking Improvements, while Haren Companies won Specialty – Under $5 Million for Camp OBR.
There were three general contractor finalists for General Contractor Project of the Year. Emery Sapp & Sons who won in the Commercial – $10 to $20 Million category with their work on the Buc-ee’s Travel Center Site Improvements project. Crossland Heavy Contractors, Inc. who won the Public Works/Environmental – Under $10 Million award for the Kaw WTP Electrical & Mechanical Improvements. As well as Straub Construction Co., Inc. who won in the Renovation – Over $2 Million category for the Prairie Highlands Golf Club project.
The award of Top General Contractor Project went to Crossland Heavy Contractors, Inc. for their Kaw WTP Electrical & Mechanical Improvements project. The Top Subcontractor Project was awarded to hth companies, inc. for their Verbio NBR Insulation project.
The Arthur C. Waugh Keystone Award went to Ben Stallings of FatBoy Electric, Inc.
In the safety categories, the Subcontractor Safety Award went to FatBoy Electric, Inc. The General Contractor Safety Award went to Fogel-Anderson Construction Co. The winner of the Ted Anderson Superior Safety Award was Fine Cut Concrete Drilling & Sawing, LLC.
